About Me

Hello Everyone! My name is Heather Howard. While I am originally from Baltimore, Maryland, my dreams of working in the music industry prompted me to move to Tennessee to attend Middle Tennessee State University to obtain my Bachelor of Science degree in Recording Industry: Music Business. Over the last few years, I have devoted my time to gaining as much experience, knowledge, and skills as possible to help me put my best foot forward as I progress in my career field. Some of my career experience include digital marketing, artist management, publicity, social media management, editorial, graphic design, and concert promotion and touring.

My Story

Before I started my journey at Middle Tennessee State University, I attended the University of New Haven for 3 semesters. During those semesters, I achieved a 4.0 GPA, Dean’s List, and accepted an invitation to Alpha Lambda Delta (a first-year success honor society). I had the honor of participating in the FLEx Leadership Program, competing in the Business Plan Pitch competition, serving as Entertainment Committee Head for the Student Committee of Programming Events, and even participating in Artist Relations & Booking for a school festival as part of my Concert Planning and Promotions class. From these positions, I found my love for marketing and management and advanced my planning, organizing, and multi-tasking skills in a fast-paced environment.

Then, as COVID-19 came in full force, I decided to make a change to further follow my dreams of being in the Music City amid all the action. For the 3 semesters I have been at Middle Tennessee State University, I have also maintained my 4.0 GPA, achieved Dean’s List, and joined Phi Kappa Phi (an honor society to recognize and encourage superior scholarship) and Tau Sigma National Honor Society (an honor society for high-achieving transfer students). I have also had the pleasure of joining several industry-focused organizations on and off campus including Omega Delta Psi (a co-ed recording industry fraternity) as their Programming Chair, AMP Entertainment (an organization that handles all aspects of student-run concerts), GRAMMY U as their Campus Ambassador, Music Forward Foundation, WE Nation, and She is The Music. Through these organizations, I have received several awards. Most notably, I was awarded a $10,000 Steven J. Finkel Scholarship from the Music Forward Foundation and was given the Omega Delta Psi’s MVP award. In addition to my extracurricular involvement, I have completed two internships with Collective Artist Management and Live Nation Entertainment, a digital marketing temp position with Country Music Association for CMA Fest and Awards, and a position with GRAMMY U as their Nashville Chapter Representative for the 2022-2023 academic school year. In November of 2022, I had the pleasure of being nominated to participate in the SOLID Scholarship Marketing Case Study Competition where I was the first runner-up. Not only was all of this hands-on experience important, but it was also important to continue to network and learn from others. That is why I have participated in several industry mentorships through GRAMMY U and BMG where I have received advice, knowledge, and hands-on opportunities from Adria DeLaune, Callie Cunningham, Jake Roggenbuck, Christian Redl, and Jeff Brabec. It was from these opportunities that I began to excel at time management, problem-solving, and analytical thinking. As I was approaching graduation in May of 2023, I accepted a position at Universal Music Group Nashville as a Digital Marketing Coordinator! Since then, the company has undergone some restructuring and I was sadly laid off as a result of these changes. Thankfully right as we began to head into the holiday season, I was connected with Libby Gardner who worked for the editorial department at the Academy of Country Music and was offered a position in the marketing department as an assistant shortly after. I now support the marketing department, including the VP and team leaders, in developing and evaluating strategies across publicity, branding, content, promotional, and social media marketing to enhance brand recognition and boost ticket sales across our annual events. Since accepting the position, I have also absorbed the role of graphic designer and now lead the design and development of assets to amplify the media presence of our events and the Academy as a whole.

I am an extremely dedicated and driven individual determined to work hard to learn even more about the industry to thrive and succeed wherever my path takes me next. I am excited to see where my professional journey takes me in the future.
